The Jammu and Kashmir police Friday arrested an alleged motorcycle thief and recovered seven bikes from him in the Old City of summer capital Srinagar.

Police arrested Zubair Ahmad Bhat, whom it called a ‘notorious bike lifter’ hailing from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

An official said police received a complaint from Lateef Ahmad Fazli, a Rainawari resident. “In his complaint Fazli said his motorcycle was stolen while it was parked near a school in his locality,” he said.

Few days before the Fazli’s complaint police had received “a specific information about presence of Bhat at Nowpora, Khanyar,” he said.

Bhat was called to police station for questioning and he disclosed that he had stolen as many as seven bikes from different places especially in downtown, the official said.

A Special team was constituted under the supervision of SDPO Khanyar Sajad Ahmad Shah which recovered seven motor bikes from different places including from a hospital premises of south Kashmir’s Bijbehara.
