JKLF chairman Yasin Malik and his 12 supporters were today detained at Sangam on Jammu-Srinagar National highway when they was heading to earthquake-hit Doda region to distribute relief material, police sources said.

A spokesman of the separatist outfit said, "Yasin Malik and 12 other JKLF leaders and activists were detained by police at Sangam (in Anantnag district) and lodged at Awantipora police station."

A Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz group) leader has been arrested with alleged hawala cash of nearly Rs 1 lakh recovered from his possession, police said today. Police intercepted Farooq Ahmad's car yesterday at Thanamandi in Rajouri district with a search of the vehicle yielding Rs 95,000 in cash, a police official said.

Ahmad, who was arrested following the discovery, is now being questioned to ascertain the source of the money and its destination, police added.

Centre sanctions over Rs 400 crore for Kashmir panchayats

To strengthen panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre will provide Rs 420 crore as untied funds, in addition to other schemes for carrying out development, Union minister Jairam Ramesh said here today.

"Each of the 4,200 panchayats in the state will get an amount of Rs 10 lakh as untied funds every year," the Union Rural Development Minister told reporters here, 15 kms from Srinagar.

A minor girl was found allegedly murdered in a filed after she went missing from her home in north Kashmir’s Sopore town, some 55 kms from Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar.

Witnesses told Kashmir Dispathc Muskan Altaf, 8, went missing from her home in Liaser Dangiwachi area of the apple town on Friday afternoon. Police launched a hunt to trace the minor and discovered her body in a field.
