Markets across Kashmir Valley witnessed heavy rush on Thursday with commercial hub of the summer capital of the state, Lal Chowk, being virtually flooded with shoppers.

Thousands of shoppers including men and women thronged market to buy clothes, crockery and other small or big home need items.

The commercial hub was teeming with activity with people jostling against one another to make space for moving as pavement and some stretch of the streets continue to be occupied by the vendors who have erected stalls to show case varied commodities, ranging from food items to household accessories.

While as almost every shop including readymade garment showrooms, foot wear and crockery shops were abuzz with activity, bakery and confectionary shops were virtually mobbed by the people.

Shoppers were seen making beelines outside the bakery shops particularly on residency road, housing the Valley’s famous confectionary and bakery shops.

Kids flanked by their parents were seen purchasing toys, clothes, footwear and other items while special stalls, showcasing accoutrements like bangles, henna, cosmetics and artificial jewelry were crowded by shoppers.

Apart from conventional shopping, gift item and greeting cards were also seen selling like hot cakes in the valley that has off late tread on western life style.

Fire-cracker sellers, in Mahraja Bazar here also did a brisk business, as children accompanied by parents bought them to have fun on the eve of Eid.

The other shopping hubs were also bustling with enthusiastic people buying the routine items needed during the festival.

Markets around historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta also witnessed heavy rush of Eid shoppers particularly those selling the household items.

Reports of shopping rush was also received from all district headquarters including Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipoira, Budgam, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam.
