Pictures: Heavy snowfall in Kashmir

Fresh snowfall has been recorded in many areas of Kashmir, this morning. Authorities have warned that weather condition could deteriorate, as more snow is expected in upcoming days.  Kashmir Dispatch's Raja Ishfaq shows you some of the frames he captured in the day.

In Shopian the alley were covered with snow as snow-cutters were only used to clear the main roads.

More than 12 inch snow has been recorded in south Kashmir districts on Saturday.

Most of the shops were closed due to heavy snowfall in upper reaches.

The northern districts of Valley experienced fresh snowfall leading to a medium-danger avalanche warning for in upper reaches. Divisional Disaster Management Authority Kashmir issued warning for avalanche prone areas of Chowkibal, Tangdhar, Keran, MachIl, Gurez, Tuleil, Sonamarg, Drass and higher reaches of Gulmarg and Uri sectors.

A young man passing by the street amid snowfall. People living in higher reaches of these areas have been advised not to venture in avalanche prone areas, during the next 24 hours. "People living in these snow bound areas are advised to keep cleaning the snow from roof top of their houses to avoid any causality due to roof collapse," an official said.

According to Coordinator Disaster Management Authority fresh snowfall of 7 to 8 inches was recorded in tourist resort of Gulmarg, bringing cheer to the tourists and locals.

An old man struggles in the snow. Snow clearance operation was started in the night by Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Department and the road was cleared for movement of traffic. "Inner roads of Gulmarg, Hotel links and parking were also cleared," he said.

Cranes were used to clean the passage, which were covered by heavy snow. Tangmarg recorded 2’’ to 3’’. Rafiabad recorded 5’’ to 9’’. Baramulla-Tragpora-Shatloo-Rohama-Panzla roads was cleared of snow. Panzla-Shalkote and Panzla-Ladoo roads were under clearance till last reports. Higher reaches of Baramulla Kandi and Sheeri recorded 4’’ to 7’’. Baramulla-Baba Reshi road was cleared and Sheeri-Malpora-Dangarpora road was in progress.

Gurez experienced fresh snowfall of 20’’ to 24’’. The snow clearance operation was in progress, despite continuous snowfall, he said.

Kupwara and Handwara received 2’’ to 3’’, Lolab, Khurhama, Vilgam, Kralpora experienced 5’’ to 7’’. Roads from Kupwara to Vavoora, Kupwara-Handwara and Magam were cleared with snow clearance machines.
