DC-area forecast: Rain from Ian will arrive today and last through the weekend

  • Tonight: Rain and wind will increase. Lows: Low to mid 50s.
  • Tomorrow: Cloudy, breezy, wet. Highs: Low to mid 60s.
  • Sunday: Mostly cloudy with wind and rain. Highs: 60 to mid 60s.

Ian’s remains could bring us a rainy weekend. Slow and light, showers later today, increasing in intensity and coverage after sunset. The heaviest and most widespread showers begin tonight, especially around midnight and after. As rain waves move, flooding is possible. Some dry spells are also possible. We may have cloudy and wet conditions through Tuesday, but at least the rain coverage and intensity will not be constant or consistently heavy.

Today (Friday): Any partial morning sun may lead to overcast skies, turning overcast in the afternoon. Light rain and showers are possible in the afternoon and especially towards sunset. Unless we see more sunshine and drier afternoon conditions than currently expected, high temperatures will only be in the mid-60s. Rainfall should be less during the day. Tonight: Waves of wind, rain and rain become regular and heavy with time. A quick overnight shower of an inch or more will arrive in the late afternoon and early morning hours. Tomorrow (Saturday): Rain will be steady in the mornings. Intensity should decrease over time, but additional showers cannot be ruled out at any time during the day. The sky will be cloudy. A brisk northeast wind may gust to 35 mph once or twice. Rainfall could be another inch in the heaviest areas, while others missed the whole thing. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s.
