William and Kate have become the new Prince and Princess of Wales, King Charles has announced.

William is following in his father’s footsteps, and Kate is the first since Diana, Princess of Wales, to use the title Diana held when she married Charles.

The couple’s children now Prince George, Princess Charlotte And Prince Louis Wales.

In his address to the nation, the King said, “I know that our new Prince and, together with Catherine, Princess of Wales, will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring marginalized people center stage. We can deliver”.

Catherine “appreciates the history associated with the role, but wants to look to the future as she forges her own path,” a source said.

“The pair are focused on deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time,” they said, adding that the couple would approach their new roles “with the humble and humble manner in which they previously approached their work”.

King Charles announced new titles to the nation

Wales First Minister Mark Drakeford said King Charles had enjoyed a “long and enduring friendship” with Wales and the country “looked forward to deepening our relationship with the new Prince and Princess of Wales”.

The Queen Consort, Camilla, was technically Princess of Wales when she married Charles in 2005, but did not use the title because of her association with Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997.

Diana was stripped of her HRH style and changed to Diana, Princess of Wales following her divorce a year before her death.

Taking the title of Prince of Wales previously held by the King, William assumed his Scottish titles and succeeded him as Duke of Cornwall.

Therefore, William and Kate are the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland.

King Charles said: “I am proud to have created him Prince of Wales, Tyvisagh Cymru, a country I have been so privileged to bear during my life and duty.”

He added: “I want to extend my love to Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives abroad.”
